My Experience With Maya Black Express And Why It Changed How I See Credit Cards

I was always skeptical of having my second credit card because the first one was really traumatizing. Admittedly, I was kinda irresponsible in terms of handling finances during those times. Those bad decisions have haunted me and my credit score over the years.
As a long-time Maya app user, I’ve always appreciated the convenience of digital banking in a fast-paced, modern lifestyle. So when Maya launched its own credit card, Maya Black, I was curious and decided to apply. I was offered Maya Black Express, a secured option where you'll need to make a minimum of ₱12,500 express deposit and 80% of which becomes your credit limit. To my surprise, the entire process was smooth and straightforward. And for the first time in a while, I was able to enjoy real credit card perks again, even with my past credit history.
From being an active user of the Maya App for years, I have always enjoyed the perks of utilizing the beauty of digital banks in this modern and active lifestyle. That’s when I discovered that Maya is offering Maya Black Express. I actually just saw it in my app and applied right away. To my surprise, the entire application was smooth and easy. I am glad to be approved despite how my credit score was affected by my previous credit card experience.
This time, I approached things differently. Maya Black Express gave me the opportunity to rebuild my credit score in a structured way. Over the years, I have learned the hardest lesson in terms of financial management, and this felt like a chance to reset. After all, a credit card shouldn’t be complicated, it should be simple, smart and rewarding with easy-to-use features and user friendly interface.
The first thing I loved about this card is how sleek and premium it looks. As you know, black cards always hit different. But beyond the design, what matters most are the practical benefits that actually fit my current lifestyle and spending habits.
One of the strongest features of Maya Black Express is the control it gives you over your spending. 80% of your Express Deposit becomes your credit limit. At the same time, that deposit earns 3.5% interest per year. You're indeed building or rebuilding your credit while growing your money at the same time.
As someone who travels frequently, earning Maya Miles on every purchase is a real plus. The quarterly access to both local and international airport lounges is another standout benefit. I have personally used the lounge access in Manila, Singapore, and even in Doha, and it genuinely makes travel more comfortable especially during long layovers.
I also like that the card earns Maya Miles on purchases, with up to 10× Maya Miles at Maya Black Preferred merchants, making everyday spending feel more rewarding.
Another thing I like about Maya Black Express is how it encourages responsible spending. If a balance remains unpaid after 60 days, the Express Deposit is used to cover the outstanding amount. Once this happens, the deposit is canceled and any remaining balance is credited back to your Maya Savings account within 31 days. The Maya Black Express Credit Card is also permanently canceled, which means you won’t be able to apply for another credit card afterward. It’s a straightforward system that promotes disciplined credit use while tying your spending directly to your deposit
Aside from being a stepping stone for good credit habits, Maya Black Express has helped me manage my spending more intentionally and gradually get my credit score back while getting on track.
I’ve come to realize that a credit card is not extra money, it’s actually a test of discipline. Used properly, it strengthens your purchasing power and opens doors to bigger financial opportunities. In the end, it’s not about how much you can spend, but how responsibly you manage it.
If you’re looking for a credit card that’s accessible, manageable, and packed with perks, Maya Black is worth considering.
